We had our Christmas party on the 21st of December 2007(which was last night) at Byron's house(whose address i cannot disclose...just in case...).

It was suppose to start at 7pm, but the moderator(who was in-charged of the cutleries and plates) was late. Thus, following Malaysian time, we started at EIGHT PM! Here's a picture blog on what happened last night...

Gone away is the bluebird...

...here to stay is the new bird
He sings us a love song,
as we go along
Walking in the winter wonderland!

The CSS-SSLA caroling has started! The first three days in Times Square was just about above average, with each performance something like increasing linearly(or directly proportional) with the day of performance. LOL.

However, the RH/Taman Connaught/Angkasa Condo caroling rocked to the bones, literally!!!!
Let me share with you a little on the atmosphere on that not so SILENT NIGHT!

- We started caroling in RH, shouting "Merry Christmas" three times(loudly) to get the attention of the students! We did 7 songs, including the encore(we were THAT good huh!) The amazing thing was the number of students who actually popped their heads out of the window and cheer for us. Luv ya'(coz the Moderator stays in the hostel...)

- It was starting to drizzle...(no, not because we were singing badly...we were GOOD ok...!)

- We went to Taman Connaught to carol. Two houses, one was Kerusi's friend's house, the other is a student of UCSI.

- The drizzle stopped already. Yeah! The moderator was grinning foolishly as the night breeze tingle against his face. Oh...I'M WISHING FOR A WHITE CHRISTMAS...

- We moved from Taman Connaught to Angkasa Condo. 10 houses to go. Phew...long night, I foresee...
a) Had a feast of chips, ice cream and snacks in Ivan's condo...
b) Superb tomato-cheddar cheese-sausage-on-a-stick meal in Michelle's house!
c) Received 'ang pau' from one of the houses of Kerusi's juniors...(aparently, the members of CSS are his koncos...the medical students are his juniors...hmmmm.....sounds something like MAFIA! LOL)
d) Had so much fun in one of the parishioner's house. The children were wearing 'I've been good' and 'I've been bad' caps! But still, YOU'VE BETTER WATCH OUT, YOU BETTER NOT CRY, YOU BETTER NOT SHOUT, I'M TELLING YOU WHY...SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN! HE SEES YOU WHEN YOU'RE SLEEPING, HE KNOWS WHEN YOU'RE AWAKE, HE KNOWS IF YOU'VE BEEN BAD OR GOOD, SO BE GOOD FOR GOODNESS SAKE...HEY!
e) MAFIA/superb singing

- We ended the night, by singing at poolside of Angkasa Condo! Superb view...everyone popping their heads out...clapping...cheering...to cap off a splendid night...wonderful, memorable, dazzling(not drizzle still!) Love it to da bones!

- Until the next post....HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS...

Adventus, Natale, Epiphania

CSS UCSI were proud to have invited Father Chris Wilwaraj for our last CSS gathering to talk on the topic of Advent and Christmas. Below is a short summary of that day :

Advent.
- This term refers to the 4 weeks before Christmas, starting from the 2nd on December until the 24th of December.
- During advent, the priest always wears a purple robe(also only during Lent) as a symbol of expectation or preparation. It is a time of preparation of a joyous or sorrowful event. In this case, Advent would be preparation for a joyous celebration that will take place during Christmas

Tradition of Advent

1. Advent Wreaths

- Each week of advent, one candle will be lighted up. There are 3 purple candles for the first three weeks of advent, and a pink candle for the last week. The purple candle symbolizes, again, the expectation of Jesus while the pink one symbolizes a new sense of expectation that Jesus will COME again(as we profess our faith in the I Believe "He will come again to judge the living and the dead")

2. The Nativity Scenes

- the nativity scenes depict the Holy Family and those who came to worship the child. Most of the time, the churches in Malaysia will have the nativity scenes at the back of the church to portrait the birth of Jesus

3. Christmas Tree

- the christmas tree depicts the celebration of this event. We move from the root to the top upwards, symbolizing our hope...as we expect the birth of Christ. The Christmas Tree is also called the Tree of Jesse and normally, at the top of the tree, we will place and ornate 'star' which is the Star of David.

4. Gifts

- Christmas presents are given in memory of God's gift that first Christmas when God gave His only son. Thus, we gift to SHARE the gifts of the GIVER.(not suka-suka)

5. Carols

- Carols tell the story of the Nativity in music and songs.

Other symbols during Christmas

1. The Christmas cake, pudding and turkey has no link to Christmas. It is just a sign of celebration(elsewhere) that has taken root into our own celebration of Christmas.

2. Santa Claus is not related to the Bible. However, Father Chris noted that it is a sign of happiness especially among the children when they receive the gifts.

3. The greeting "MERRY CHRISTMAS" means 'Christ-giving celebration'. Thus, when wishing others, use 'Merry Christmas' and not 'Season Greetings' or 'X-Mas' which has no ties to the true meaning of the celebration.

Thank you Father Chris and let us all prepare ourselves for the first Sunday of Advent!
