Do you know the SIGN?

"The Sign of the Cross is probably the most often used prayer of Christians and most likely the first prayer we learned as children. Despite its simplicity, the Sign of the Cross is an ancient prayer rich in meaning. References to it appear in writings dating back to 240 AD, and it is believed that it was in use during the earliest days of Christianity.

Initially the Sign of the Cross was made with thumb, usually on the forehead but sometimes on the lips and chest. This small Sign of the Cross was in common use by the end of the 4th century and is still used today at every Mass, with the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Anointing of the Sick. It also is used for marking the forehead with ashes on Ash Wednesday.

By the 6th century, people were using the first two fingers, held together to make a large Sign of the Cross, touching the forehead, chest, and shoulders. The two fingers symbolized the divine and human natures of Christ.

The use of three fingers became popular in the 9th century. The thumb and first two fingers were held outstretched together to symbolize the Trinity, while the remaining two fingers were bent to signify Christ's two natures. This form of the large Sign of the Cross is still used in Eastern Christian churches, where the right shoulder is touched before the left.

By the end of the Middle Ages, the Western Church had adopted the practice of making the large Sign of the Cross with an open hand and touching the left shoulder before the right. This is the form we Catholics continue to use today.

The Sign of the Cross is primarily a blessing. We use it to call God's blessing upon us. We also use it, in both large and small versions, to bless others or things, such as a rosary. When used in this way,the large Sign of the Cross is made in the air. Laypersons as well as clergy can use it to bless others. Parents, for example, may use the Sign of the Cross to bless their children.

When we make the Sign of the Cross upon ourselves, we are also expressing our belief in God and the Trinity. Through it, we remind ourselves of God's love for us, of the sacrifice Jesus made to give us eternal life, and of the presence of the Holy Spirit within us.

The Sign of the Cross also gives us a way to express our belief in Jesus' death and our hope in the Resurrection. We embrace the cross of Jesus and express our willingness to take up our own cross, all the while bursting with joyful hope in the Resurrection.

The routine at Mass of making the small Sign of the Cross on our foreheads, lips, and chest before the reading of eh Gospel also has meaning. In doing this, we acknowledge our belief in the Word of God, our commitment to spread God's Word in our daily lives, and our awareness of God's presence in our hearts.

So while making the Sign of the Cross
may sometimes seem like a routine action,
it is not.
It marks us as Christians
and
is a visible expression of our belief
and
hope in God."

???

??? You must be wondering...what happened to Greg the Kerusi of CSS UCSI. He's soaking wet, drenched to the socks, chilled to the bones...hmmm....what happened to him? Well, I'm wondering too...so why dun you join me and read the sequence of events leading to the above photo on the GLORIOUS day of Thusday, 3rd of April 2008...

Everyone gathered in C308 for a joyous occasion...CSS's Easter Tea Party...chit chatting, laughing, eating, dancing...all's merry, BUT will it end merry...?
Yes, Greg joked about the balloons and stuff...
Little did our beloved CSS prez know what was about to befall him...an evil plot waiting in the wings...

We continue on with the Easter Tea Party...

"I've got no proffessional training" reads the shirt...
Typical Greg. BLUR. 1,2,3! And he's still squatting down...Justin already shouted his name like 10 secs ago!!! (Oh yeah, we're playing the name game, where each team has to name the person who stands up...)

You! You! I know your name....you...argh!!!

Sophie : Brother brother brother ......!!!!
Brother Sebastian : Sophia!!!
(Brother Sebastian won...it's an advantage to have a LONG name you see...)

Look who's waiting on the other side of the board...

Group 1 was leading the way...steam-rolling Group 2...

Look at the number of members in Group 1...all those they caught from Group 2... (Oh yeah, if you fail to mention your opponent's name and the other does, you will be 'caught' by the other team)

Then, it was time to DIG IN! Donuts, sandwiches, chocolates, cakes, kuihs, karipaps...
Gather round the table ...

It was time for a short Powerpoint Presentation on the activities held by CSS throughout the last semester...
Greg's nightmare has just started...
And yes yes, the above was what we did in one of our gatherings last year...

Spelling of MISSISSIPPI with their butts! (because the slideshow went haywire and the video couldn't play, we got the 4 original actors to Re-MOVE IT MOVE IT...)

Brother Sebastian was present with all of us...

2nd game... Each group have to 'link' to each other using what they have on their own body...
Shirt, pants, belt, tie...whatever you can think off....shoe-lace...

It seems easy...but it requires strategy, planning, teamwork...and a bit of strings here and there to tie together!

One of the teachers present : "I look like I was raped! Haha...."
(He had to unbuttoned his shirt, took out his tie, took out his belt and use it for the game...)

3rd game, but Greg still had the time to scout the newspaper...unknown to what what yet to come...

The 'hugging' game! Like musical chairs, the groups had to danced around until the music stopped...and when the music stopped, all 3 in the group have to fit themselves inside the piece of newspaper...

By hook or crook, on the feet or on the back...they MUST fit inside the small piece of paper...

The newspaper will be folded after each round...see how small the newspaper has become...

The girls having a giggle or two trying to stand inside the piece of paper...

And the winning team...yes, Greg's team again...all seems to be going too well for him, eh?

While all of this was going on, Sue was hiding outside with a cake...
You see, we found out Greg's birthday was on a very special day...and we took the chance to celebrate Easter/Greg's birthday/ Greg's last gathering as CSS President/ Greg's last semester in UCSI Cheras

Yum yum, chocolate cake...

Greg blew the candle flame off...

And then, he had to remove ALL the candles using his mouth...there were only 4 candles by the way...nevertheless...

Remember the balloons??

Because this was his last gathering, the members were given the chance to DRESS Greg with everything they can find in the room...balloons for example...
Blimey, a male Barbie...called Gregory!

We had to blindfold Greg...so that he couldn't see what we were doing with him...nightmare huh?
Everyone was eager to seek revenge on Greg for the times he susahkan us, for the times he sent 3 emails in 1 hour...for the times that i checked my inbox every Saturday to find 20+ new mails from him!!!

Behold Greg. Handbags. Balloons. Newspapers. Glasses. Umbrella. Scarf.

He looked like some insect...a bee maybe...but with ACCESSORIES...

Everyone wanted to pose with the 'supermodel'...

He has a tail...of balloons...or well, a swollen tail...

The backside of Greg...there you see...his tail...

Everyone smile at the camera and point at Greg...

When Greg was finally undressed...i mean, un-accessorized...he thought it was the end...flashing us a smile indeed...

Well, indeed it was almost the end of the humilation. We challenged him to wear the balloons around his body and walk back to the condominium...but he said he need to keep his dignity as the president of CSS...

So we cornered him, pinned him down in Angkasa Condo, held him by the arms and leg...
AND THREW HIM INTO THE SWIMMING POOL!!!
MUAHAHAHAHA..........

Splash! The guy in the pool was thrilled with our idea...

Greg getting out of the pool...soaking wet from head to toe...

Greg drying his socks...

And flashes a smile and a 'peace' at the camera!
All well ends well...and merry...for everyone...
We wouldn't mind doing it again soon...when Greg comes back and visits us....hehehe....

What an enjoyable evening we had. The largest turn-up. Good food. Fun games. Sweet revenge. And a soaking wet president! What more can you ask....?
